Basic Emergency Survival Kit

  • by

Even if you’re the most experienced climber or have been camping all your life, accidents can happen. An emergency will leave you fighting for your life if you’re not prepared. One of the most important things you need to have is a basic emergency survival kit. In this article, we will teach you what your kit needs to have in any situation.

#1 The most important item in your kit

Your best tool for survival in an emergency situation is a fire starter. If you have a fire starter you can do many things to keep you alive.

Your fire will keep you warm and let you cook food. You can use the fire to signal for help, and you can scare off predators.

You should store your fire starter in a waterproof container to make sure that it doesn’t get damaged.

#2 Survival Knife

For everything you do with fire, you’ll need a knife to help you get there.

With a knife, you can hunt small animals for food or protect yourself from large ones.

You’ll use the knife to cut the string, sharpen sticks, cut through cloth, and carve out basic tools.

Make sure the knife is kept sharp and is good quality so that you can use it for the foreseeable future.

#3 Map and Compass

Once you’ve established basic survival with a fire starter and knife, you can start thinking about escaping. Chances are your GPS devices will not last forever, so it is important to have a backup plan.

If you have a GPS you can use the map to pinpoint where you are and start heading towards civilization. If you don’t have a GPS, then the map will allow you to keep track of where you’ve traveled.

You’ll be using the compass to make sure you’re going in the right direction. Without one, you could be walking in circles for hours and not even know it.

#4 First Aid Kit

Finally, you will need a way to treat any minor cuts, scrapes, bruises, or burns.

Your first aid kit should have bandages, plasters, gauze, cleaning wipes, tape, antiseptic cream, painkillers, and distilled water. With this spread, you will be able to deal with most minor injuries without fear of infection.

Your first aid kit should be easily accessible at all times in case of emergencies.
